PENURUNAN KONSENTRASI BESI DALAM AIR DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN METODE FILTRASI DAN OKSIDASI

The presence of iron in groundwater where groundwater is one of the sources of raw water for drinking water has become a concern from many others, especially because of its impact on health. Various studies have been carried out related to how to reduce the iron content in groundwater, one of which is by oxidation and filtration processes using silica sand and manganese zeolite. This study aims to determine the value of the concentration and efficiency of iron content in water after oxidation and filtration processes are carried out. The results of this study indicate that the rate of efficiency of iron in water using manganese zeolite media is 85%-95%, whereas if using silica sand the results are quite significant reaching 80% - 90% efficiency. The reduction of iron concentrate using chlorine (kaporit) and KMnO4 oxidizing agents both averaged 90%-98.99%. While the variation of the filtration rate greatly affects the reduction in the concentration of iron (Fe) because of the relation between flow rate and detention time. In filter media, activated silica sand and manganese zeolite are more often used, less effective because they reach saturation point and are required to regenerate before reuse.
